Hack the Christmas Gifts

Can you put a limit on the price you pay per gift? Many families draw names as to who they need to buy gifts for. If you buy something for every member of the family, why not try to get one gift that the whole family can use and enjoy? How about homemade gifts, jellies, soaps, candles, goodies from your kitchen? Maybe a book of coupons for things like car washes, babysitting, help cleaning one's house, things that involve your time, not your money.

Why not get everyone together and say that next year will be different as finances will no longer allow you to do as you've done in years past. You might be surprised to find that others in your families feel the same way but were afraid to bring the subject up. Remember, it's not about the gifts. If you save extra money and pay into your home loan and redraw you can treat your whole family to that wonderful memorable holiday next year, maybe a trip to the Barrier Reef or a trip to Bali.
